It's hot outside. Really hot.
The atmosphere is so bright and alive, though.
As the plane was landing, I grew increasingly excited. Since I was young, I've wanted to go to Taiwan. Through the years, this desire developed. Looking out the airplane window, I was so happy. I felt like, even though I was landing in a place I had never really been to before, I was coming home. I felt like I belonged. Like my arrival was meant to be. Maybe it's my ancestors with me :P
It feels comfortable, but the awesomest kind. Like my personal Heaven. The language is familiar, the people and their mannerisms, the food, the street vendors, the modernity mixed in with a little ghetto-ness. My imagination made real.
Today Alex and I went to Zhong Shan Mall and Taipei Main Station Mall. We went into this bag shop and Alex wanted to buy this bag so he was talking to the lady and understanding some of what she was saying (I like how they all just talk to us in Chinese. makes us feel less like we're aliens). This lady was super nice. When we passed her on our way back, she asked us where we were going. We said we were going to Taipei Station Mall and then she started telling us that things over there are well priced and that there are a lot of places to eat. Then we said that we could get some food since we hadn't eaten lunch yet (it was about 4pm). Then she ran to her small counter and came back with all these cracker snacks. She gave us hugs and food and she was so nice. I will definitely remember you Wang Ahyi.
Soooo it's late. I will sum up my day quickly:
I look really young, even in Asia.
Streets markets are so fun.
I love cheap buns that taste and look amazing!
I love this language!
This taste feels like home.
Our apartment needs to be cleaned soon.
Sweat. so much sweat.
I feel like I belong :)
Goodnight!
